Winter Hair Color Trends

As winter weather gets cooler and cooler, hair color gets even hotter! No more mousy blondes or sun kissed highlights. This season, colors are deep, saturated, brilliant and bright.

When you decide on your next color adventure, make your appointment with Halo Salon & Color Lab! Before you come in, make sure you’re prepared this these tips:

  • Bring your inspiration: Photographs and examples of hair color you love will help you and your colorist explore your color options – and ensure that you both mean the same thing when you say, “honey blonde” or “scarlet red.”
  • Know your history: Be prepared to tell your colorist about any prior color services, whether it was highlights last year or a color gloss last month.
  • Trust your colorist: Listen to your colorist’s expert opinion. During your color consultation, they will consider your desired result, then evaluate your hair’s condition and look at your skin tone and coloring in order to create your custom color formulation.
  • Ask questions: If you hear a color term you don’t understand, don’t hesitate to ask your colorist for an explanation. Remember to inquire about maintenance – how often you’ll need to return to the salon for touchups, and how to best maintain your color at home between visits.

Winter 2011/12 Trends

The weather is changing and along with it, the hair trends. Halo Salon & Color Lab is always on top of the trends; and along with Allure.com, bring you the hottest winter 2011/12 trends:

Loose Braid. This summer craze is here to stay for a while longer. Add a touch of texture for volume and stay.

Low Ponytail. This sophisticated ponytail is proving that high, bouncy ponytails and even side ponytails are out! Start with a center part and slick your hair back to the base of your neck.

Hair Half -Up. This classic has been around for a while and isn’t going anywhere. Create a center part, lightly teased the hair at the roots, and then pulled back a one-inch section of hair from above both ears and secured it loosely. The hair that falls out around your face, let it be.

Flashes of Color. Allover, full-blown wacky color may still be reserved for the Lady Gagas of the world, but a streak or two of a shocking hue is having a moment. Curl large pieces of your hair so the color underneath will show through.

Deep Side Part. Whether your hair is curly, straight, or wavy, a low side part instantly adds sophistication and drama. Let the hair fall softly over the forehead and slightly over one brow to soften the effect some.

Whether you want something special for a night, or a change for the weather, Halo Salon & Color Lab can help you out! For more information about our products and services, LIKE our Facebook page!

Sky High Volume!

No girl, or guy for that matter, wants flat, dull hair. But getting that voluminous ‘do isn’t as easy as it sometimes sounds – especially if you don’t naturally have hair that holds any kind of  curl. No worries, ladies! Halo Salon & Color Lab and PHYTO have the answer for you:

  • 1. Shampoo with Phytovolume Volumizing Shampoo with Yarrow Extract if you have virgin hair or a slightly oily scalp, and alternate with Phytopanama+ Intelligent Shampoo for frequent use. Alternate with Phytolactum+ Gentle Shampoo for frequent use.
  • 2. Spray Phytovolume Actif Volumizing Spray on towel-dried hair directly to root one section at a time and blow dry.

Now, achieving your perfect volume couldn’t be easier! For more tutorials, come talk to your Halo Salon stylist! For more information about our services and products, see our Facebook page!

The Fight Against Frizz

Everyone at Halo Salon & Color Lab absolutely LOVES this cooler weather! But as fall (and eventually winter) approach us, dry, frizzy hair does, too. But no worries, we make sure our clients leave without any frizz, and now you can do the same each time you leave your house!

We were one of first ten salons selected nationally to be a PHYTO concept salon, and therefore have some great resources! PHYTO has an amazing line of products that can help fight frizz; just follow these simple steps:

1. Shampoo your hair with Phytolisse Shampoo. This frequent-wash shampoo contains natural thermo-protective agents that shield strands from the damage of heat styling.

2. Apply a quarter size of Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm on wet hair. Mix with a pea size of Phyto 7 Daily Hydrating Botanical Cream for added moisture and shine. Comb through to distribute evenly. Continue with heat-styling. Straightening effect is cumulative with continued use.

3. Finish with Phytolisse Finishing Serum for sleek and smooth hair. Pump 1 to 2 drops into palm. Distribute throughout hair with fingertips, focusing on the ends. Use throughout the day to fight frizz from humidity and calm fly-aways.

For more information, check out our Facebook page! If you can’t seem to quite get this right, call (817) 737-4256 to make an appointment today! Our stylist can show you how to fight frizz specifically for YOUR hair!

Fashion Flashbacks

At Halo Salon & Color Lab, we love everything hair and makeup, but they wouldn’t be complete without the fashion that goes with it! We wanted to bring you the top fall fashion trends so you can be allover trendy every day!

According to Fashionising.com, past decades are back! And we know why – when it comes to the best things in life, history repeats itself!

1970s
Just as the ’50s and ’60s are back, so too are particular elements of the ’70s. There are two main aesthetics: ’70s bohemian, and ’70s sophisticated glamour. When it comes to the latter, think dresses that fall like shimmering water in the evening and high-waist pants with elegant blouses by day. To get this look, pair some of these:

  • High waisted wide-leg pants or flares, smartly belted in.
  • Neat bow-blouses, especially ones with billowing or bishop sleeves. Particularly great are fabrics like silk and satin.
  • Roll neck sweaters tucked into pants or skirts. Add to the ’70s effect by layering over beaded necklaces or a vest.

1960s
Yes the 70s are back, but so too are the decade that they replaced. While a revival of 60s fashion as a trend started long ago with the first season of Mad Men, for autumn 2011 the trend loses its American overtones and becomes thoroughly British. So as the revival of the 70s caters to those whose tastes align with American fashion for fall 2011, so too does the 1960s fashion allow for those with an appreciation for British fashion. Embrace this decade by doing these:

  • Wide eyes curtained by big false lashes (top and bottom).
  • Bright block colours.
  • Graphic prints and colourful abstract geometric patterns.
  • Short, boyish hairstyles.
  • Masculine flat shoes like penny loafers.
  • For fall, swing coats and capes.

We love these looks that Fashionising.com put together and couldn’t agree more – that the 60s and 70s are back! To get the perfect 60s and 70s hair, let our experts at Halo Salon & Color Lab help!

Top 5 Hottest Bridal Trends

Rachael Grissel, Wedding Coordinator for Halo Brides Hair & Makeup tells us all the hottest bridal trends she’s seeing for fall 2011.

1. Care Free, Yet Refined Look
Typically we see hair styles that are either very polished or care free and relaxed but this fall we will be seeing a hybrid of the two such as:

- A classic pinup style that has been mussed up to give it a modern feel
- A french twist or beehive that isnt polished, more separation in the hair and a just thrown up look
- A messy bun set low or high

2. Flowers, Feathers, Bows…Oh My!
Hair accessories are all the rage from floral and feather fascinators, to over sized bows.

3. The More Unusual The Better
Some more off beat things we have seen… veils made out of ribbon, bouquets made entirely out of buttons or brooches.

4. Shorter Hemlines to Show Off Those Legs
Brides are opting for shorter dresses, and as predicted we are starting to see white bridesmaids gowns… a definate nod to Kate Middleton.

5.  Earth-Tone Colors Are In
Popular wedding and bridesmaid colors include- desert sand, robins egg blue, blush, gold, charcoal, and rustic brown.

The Secret to All Day Curls

Owner and stylist, Jenna Rabideau, shows how she uses a traditional curling iron to make amazing curls that last all day long. The secret? Take the clamp off! It makes the curling rod easier to maneuver the roots of the hair instead of the bottom; the result is uplifting hair, not heavy curls!
